A newspaper is a regularly published print product which contains news on current events of special or general interest to the community it serves. The earliest known newspaper was a daily sheet published in 59 BC in Rome called Acta Diurna (Daily Events), which Julius Caesar ordered posted throughout the city. The first known printed newspaper was in Beijing in 748 AD. The mass production of print products emerged in the mid fifteenth century, ushering in an era of widely distributed magazines, newspapers and other publications. Newspaper publishers began regular output of newspapers in Europe starting around the early 17th century; the “Oxford/London Gazette” from this time frame is considered the first true newspaper. “Publick Occurrences Both Foreign and Domestick” made its appearance in Boston around 1690, the first publication issued by an American newspaper publisher.
